Whiskey for Brunch

Drinking in the morning is often frowned upon. Unless you’re sipping mimosas or seeing how much bacon you can cram into a Bloody Mary, a lot of pre-noon drink orders earn a quizzical look. Although everyone around here is comfortable with a slug of cask-strength first thing in the morning (hey, it’s a part of the job!), we understand not feeling up for straight liquor with your pancakes—though if you ever do, our Walnut Toffee Whiskey pairs quite nicely.

That’s why we’ve collected some of our crew’s favorite whiskey-based breakfast cocktails. Below you’ll find everything from hangover cures to fancy libations created to impress. As always, let us know how you and your crew enjoy whiskey for brunch.

Crew Coffee

Similar to the popular Irish Coffee, our crew also likes a little dawn pick-me-up. However, ours skips the cream and extra sugar in favor of our carefully crafted flavors:



  • Eyeball whiskey into mug
  • Top with coffee

Pairs well with: Coffee, much like whiskey, goes with everything

Ginger Whiskey Sour

One of our all-time favorite drinks is the versatile whiskey sour. We like to add a little kick to ours by using our Ginger Spice Whiskey. The combination of ginger, lemon, and spices leads to a surprisingly bright and complex cocktail.


  • 2 oz Cask & Crew Ginger Spice Whiskey
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • Maraschino cherry and/or orange wheel


  • Combine whiskey and lemon juice in shaker
  • Fill with ice and shake until chilled
  • Strain into ice-filled rocks glass
  • Garnish with one or both, Maraschino cherry and orange wheel

Pairs well with: Something salty, like a sausage or bacon breakfast sammy

Rye Me a River

Some things are better left unsaid, but not the ingredients to one of our most delicious concoctions. Now it’s your turn to Rye!


  • 1 ½ oz Cask & Crew Rye Whiskey Blend
  • 1 ½ oz Domaine de Canton
  • ½ fresh squeezed lemon
  • Splash of honey
  • Sprig of thyme


  • Combine liquid ingredients in shaker
  • Fill with ice and shake until chilled
  • Strain into ice-filled glass
  • Garnish with sprig of thyme

Pairs well with:Hearty quiches, frittatas, and other baked egg dishes

Whiskey Round the World

From Italy all the way to the Caribbean, this cocktail takes advantage of some of the world’s best flavors and melds them into a full-bodied, brooding libation with a palate that continues to evolve in the glass. A sweet reminder of your own travels.


  • 1 ½ oz Cask & Crew Walnut Toffee Whiskey
  • ½ ounce sweet vermouth
  • ¾ ounce Amontillado sherry
  • ¼ ounce coconut syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Orange peel for garnish


  • Combine liquid ingredients in shaker
  • Fill with ice and stir until chilled
  • Strain into coup and garnish with orange peel

Pairs well with:French toast, pancakes, and waffles
